Twist Out Cancer Events

August Spree got involved in this non-profit in 2014. She began by volunteering at their primary fundraising event, then was invited to join the Board in 2016, and by 2020 she was offered the position of Director of Programs. Her primary function is helping to create partnerships, and helping to plan and execute their primary Brushes with Cancer programs along with their largest events: the Brushes with Cancer gala, which grew to over 700 attendees by 2017. The program matches artists with those who have been touched by cancer and it culminates in a gala and art exhibition to celebrate survivors, artists, and cancer support community. The galas have become highly anticipated events in Chicago, Detroit, Austin, and beyond.
